Review: Vane is an art game with heart, but some design flaws hold it back – GameCrate

Games Review
Platform: PS4Vane. Part walking sim. Part flying bird sim. Part puzzler. All art house game. I really wanted to like this game. I kind of did, actually. Some of it, at least. I liked — and I mean, genuinely liked — what the game tried to do. I just couldn't enjoy it completely due to a few prominent design flaws. That's not to say you should write Vane off entirely. If you can look past the game's issues, you'll find an experience that has a lot of heart and soul — for that alone, maybe you should check it out. Maybe. A Desert Dream Land Gameplay in Vane is split up into two parts. You control a small child and explore a surreal desert land. What are you looking for? Shelter, maybe? Escape? As is the case in other similar art games such as Journey and Ryme, this is th...

Pennsylvania might slap a 10% tax on violent video games, but the industry says the proposed law is fundamentally flawed – Business Insider

Games News
Games like "Mortal Kombat" have long sparked debates about the social impact of violent video games."Mortal Kombat 11"/NetherRealm Studios The Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering a bill that would place a 10% tax on video games with a Mature or Adults Only rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). Rep. Christopher Quinn first proposed the bill in October 2018, and it has been re-introduced for the 2019 legislative session with bi-partisan support. Revenue generated by the tax would be used to fund school safety measures. The Entertainment Software Association, which is responsible for the ESRB ratings, claims that the bill violates the first amendment by targeting video games based on their content. Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering a bill that would sl...

Review: Golf Battle Is An Insanely Addictive Online Mobile Multiplayer Game – Technology Zimbabwe

Mobile Games
I’m not an avid mobile gamer but I’ll go on a limb and say I’ve never played anything as addictive as Golf Battle. Yes, I didn’t like Candy Crush, so maybe that doesn’t count for much but the simplicity and competitive nature of Golf Battle hasn’t been rivalled by many other mobile games for me. I usually prefer to play games on a console and PC but Golf Battle is among the few mobile games that change my mind about mobile games.advertisementadvertisement My beef with most mobile games is with the controls. A touch screen is great for input but when it comes to games it just doesn’t stack up all that well. Apart from not giving you the feedback that physical buttons would usually do, the touchscreen controls on most mobile games e...

Sony: The World's Got All the Battle Royale It Needs Right Now – Push Square

PlayStation Games
When you consider that PlayStation already plays host to every third-party property that matters, we suppose it’s a bit silly for Sony to be chasing trends with exclusive titles. This is something it did in the past, with so-called “Halo killers” like Killzone and Resistance – but more recently it’s started singing to its own tune. There’s no doubt that the platform holder makes amazing story-driven games, and that’s where its emphasis has been. Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden says that will continue moving forwards. “I don't want to get into me-too, it seems like I think the world's got all the Battle Royale it needs right now,” he said when asked about the success of Fortnite by CNET and whether the manufacturer is looking ...

It's always been hard to make a video game we want to buy. The internet's making it even harder.Titles like Bethesda's post-apocalyptic adventure game Fallout 76 and the wartime simulator Battlefield 5 from Electronic Arts became punching bags of prominent gamers on YouTube and Twitter when they launched last year. Players and reviewers alike criticized Fallout 76 as a poorly made game that offered little new feel or fun compared with its award-winning predecessor, 2015's Fallout 4. Some critics, meanwhile, were upset with EA for featuring a woman in its marketing of Battlefield 5, a shooting game set during World War II. To make matters worse, the game was incomplete when released, missing a promised battle royale mode to compete with Fortnite.Shawn Layden, formerly head of S...

Epic Games Store vs Steam: battle of the online stores – TechRadar

Games News
Epic made quite a few ripples when it opened its digital game store back in December. Tantalising developers with a generous 88% profit share (as opposed to Steam’s 70%), the Fortnite publisher nabbed exclusivity deals for some notable new games. Meanwhile, it’s reeling in droves of gamers by offering a free game every, ahem, fortnight to those who use the store. But recently those ripples amassed into a full-on tidal wave when Epic announced that big-name shooter Metro Exodus would be exclusive to the Epic Game Store until 2020. Some called it a dirty trick, others called it good business. Either way it made using the Epic Store that less bit avoidable. So with the Epic Store brute-forcing its way into our taskbars, we decided to compare it with Steam - the de facto platform ...
